| Abstract | Abstract Background: Rheumatic fever, an important cause of mortality and morbidity in children, is caused by streptococcal pharyngitis and encompasses the etiology of 30% to 40% of all cardiac diseases. Objective: To determine the prevalence of stereptococcal pharyngitis in children with pharyngitis and assess and compare its signs and clinical manifestations with other types of pharyngitis. Methods: 119 children with the age range of 5 to 15 were admitted in Qods hospital in Qazvin with pharyngitis in which 88 children without the history of Antibiotic therapy were selected .A questionnare was completed for each and their pharynx were cultured seperately . Findings: Out of 88 pharyngeal cultures, 14 cases were found to be affected by group A beta hemolytic streptococcus strain which indicated the prevalence rate of 15.9% .No meaningful association was defected between clinical manifestation and the causative microorganism of pharyngitis. Conclusion: The prevalence of streptococcal phrayngitis in this study is similar to universal findings .Sings and clinical manifestations of streptococcal pharyngitis cannot be trusted as a reliable criteria for differentiation with other pharyngitis. | en |
