Abstract
Context: The use of chemical preservatives and their adverse effects on consumer health have caused great concern among consumers and health centers. For this reason, food manufacturers are looking for ways to make food safer by using natural methods and replacing biological preservatives with chemicals. One of the common methods is to use essential oils and plant extracts as an antimicrobial additive in biological coatings. The use of edible coatings and films in the food packaging industry increases the shelf life of products. Evidence Acquisition: In this study, a database search was conducted with the keywords Edible Film, Medicinal Plants, and Coating. Results: The results of this study showed that edible film has very good effects in food packaging, which can be used practically in factories. Conclusions: The aim is a mini review to study plant-based edible film and coating for food packaging applications.
