| Abstract | Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, are well-recognized complications of cancer and its treatment. Anticoagulation is the mainstay of both treatment and prophylaxis for VTE. Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters may have a role in the management of cancer patients especially in patients with complications or contraindications to anticoagulant therapy. With availability of retrievable filters, new indications have also been introduced.
