Results of Rastelli operation in children with complex congenital heart defects (CHD)

AbstractAlthough, over the past 3 decades the operation described by Rastelli and his colleagues but Iranian experience is limited only to recent years. Therefore we decided to evaluate and present an institutional experience in one of the major Iranian heart hospital. A retrospective analysis was carried out in 64 patients who undergoing Rastelli operation since March 1993 to September 2000 at Shaheed Rajaie Heart Hospital. The group included 40 (62%) boys and 24 girls, aged 3-18 years (mean 9 year). Most common diagnosis was transposition of great arteries (TGA) with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction (62%).Homograft conduit used in 61% of patients and conduit obstruction was the most common complication (30%). Early (in hospital) mortality of the Rastelli operation in our study was 19% (12/64). The Rastelli operation in children with complex CHD is possible and successful has been in our center and our results comparable with primary results of advanced centers.en
