| Abstract | Introduction: Lifestyle affects the health of the individual, and also adopting an unhealthy lifestyle can lead to various diseases, including hypertension. In this way, this study aimed to determine the effect of group discussion based on healthy lifestyle on hypertension control. Materials and Methods: In the current randomized controlled trial, 50 patients of Urmia Clinical-Educational Center of Sayyed-Al Shohadain (Iran) were selected conveniently they were then randomly allocated into two groups: the control and experimental groups. Before and two months after intervention in both groups, blood pressure was measured and recorded using mercury manometer. In the experimental group, 12 sessions of group discussion were conducted on healthy lifestyle. Relatively, data analysis was performed by using t-test and chi square tests. Results: Two groups of control and experimental were homogeneous for demographic variables (p>0.05). Before the intervention, no significant difference in mean scores of diastolic and systolic blood pressure was found between the control and the experimental groups (p>0.05). t Noticeably, after the intervention, the mean of diastolic and systolic blood pressure scores between intervention and control groups was statistically significant (p = 0.0001). Conclusion: Group discussion based on healthy life style could reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Therefore, it is recommended that this method can be used to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. | en |
