AbstractBackground: Studies have indicated that acquisition emotion regulation strategies are associated with childhood maltreatments. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to predict use of suppression as an emotional regulation strategy in Iranian adolescents who have experienced childhood traumas. Methods: This study was conducted cross-sectional among Iranian adolescents that were social medias user and the convenience sampling method was used for recruiting participant. 302 adolescents (ages 12 - 17; M = 16, SD =1.37) completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and Gross & John Emotion Regulation Scale (ERQ). SAtepwise regression was used to analyze data. Results and Conclusions: Results indicated that physical abuse was significant predictor of acquisition of reappraisal (p < 0.05). More research on the role of factors mediating the relationship between childhood traumas and acquisition of suppression are needed.en
