Abstract

Body mass index (BMI) is a tool for indicating weight status in adults. BMI is used as an index for determining the total body fatness or general obesity. In importance of young people health, this study was carried out to determine the rate of healthy among students of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in 2001-2002. We chose 720 students (428 female aged 20.9±2.4 and 292 male aged 23.3±4.6 y) that were selected in stratified sampling. The results shows the Mean and SD BMI were 21.6±3.1, and 21.7±2.9, respectively, in female and male a student that statistically there was no difference between mean BMI. 18.3% of students were underweight, 12.9 were overweight and 1.3% was obese. As results show some of female and male students are in a degree of malnutrition, therefore launching nutritional programs and life style modification program are recommended
