| Abstract | Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is one of the health problems of many countries in tropical and subtropical regions and is endemic in many parts of our country. Objective: To determine the status of this disease in Aran and Bidgol. Methods: 5088 subjects in ten villages of south-east of this city were under study. Previous cases as well as new cases of infected persons were tested clinically by physicians and parasitological lab tests. Findings: The results indicated the incidence rate of the disease as 42.7%. 35.6% of the subjects had scar, 49.3% of previously infected cases had more than one scar. The prevalence rate of active wound was 7.1%. 46.8% had more than one active wound. Lesion included 39.6% in hand, 28.8% in foot, 26% in face and 5.6% in other parts of the body respectively. Conclusion: It is recommanded to have further epidemiological research in these types of regions to provide complete picture of the disease. | en |
