Abstract | Background: The hydration of a partially set, chemically activated glass ionomer cement can adversely affect the final physical properties of the material. Objective: To determine the efficiency of three coating agents (Copal varnish, Fuji varnish and ketac-glaze) in protecting fuji-cap II and ketac-fil Aplicap glass on contact with water. Methods: 24 hours and 1 week after preparing the specimens, the translucency of glass-ionomer cements were used as the criteria efficiency of the coating material. Glass-ionomer specimens were prepared and tested without using a coating material in the control group. Findings: The results indicated that Fuji-cap II reached its optimum translucency protected with copal varnish, whereas protecting ketac-fil Aplicap specimens had no significant effect on its translucency. Conclusion can be concluded that the degree of protection depends on the type of the coating materials, glass-ionomers and the time in which the research is carried out. | en |
